Eagles under pressure over 'flawless' World Cup preparation

There is only one South African-based player in the squad as Chippa United's Daniel Akpeyi was named as one of the four goalkeepers.

The list includes Captain Mikel John Obi, goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, defenders Abdullahi Shehu, Elderson Echiejile and Leon Balogun, as well as midfielders Ogenyi Onazi and Oghenekaro Etebo and forwards Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses.

Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr, yesterday named a 30-man provisional squad for next month's FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation, with Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leading goals scorer Junior Lokosa and Plateau United first choice goaltender Dele Ajiboye making the list.

"The goalkeepers however need to train thrice harder and work more on their confidence".

According to Ibitoye, reports from the medical team indicate that the players will be 100 per cent fit before the World Cup begins."We have three more games to play before the World Cup".

The team's training camp will run from 22 May until 11 June.

The attackers are Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow, Russia); Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England); Moses Simon (KAA Gent, Belgium); Victor Moses (Chelsea FC, England); Odion Ighalo (Changchun Yatai, China); Alex Iwobi (Arsenal FC, England); and another newcomer, Nwankwo Simeon (Crotone FC, Italy).

He opines that the level of support and encouragement given to the Nigerian side is enough to raise the anxiety of the players to give their best in Russia."Raising money to meet the demands of the Super Eagles to excel in Russia is very good if the money eventually got to them".

"I still don't know what Ezenwa and Echiejile are doing in that squad?"
