Deadly California Blast Caused by Explosive Device

"At this point, our working theory is that this explosion was caused by a device, and although the damage was extensive, there are some components that we have located at the scene that are inconsistent with what one might expect to find at this business", said Delacourt, who joined officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Department in releasing new details on the investigation Wednesday.

Remnants of a bomb had been discovered contained in the badly broken spa the place the highly effective explosion Tuesday shook town of Aliso Viejo, about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) south of Los Angeles. Two patrons were seriously injured.

The blast, which blew out almost the entire first floor, sent plumes of white smoke into the air and debris flying into the parking lot.

In a news conference Tuesday night, Orange County Sheriff's Department Commander Dave Sawyer said it was unclear whether the explosion was intentional or accidental. No arrests were made.

Authorities say one person is dead and two others have injuries after an explosion rocked a Southern California office building.

Items found at the scene "were not consistent with items that would be used as a day spa", a sheriff's official said.

The officials were briefed on the investigation but not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

On Wednesday morning, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents could be seen outside Krajnyak's home, located in a residential development in an unincorporated area next to Rancho Santa Margarita, video from the scene showed.

Krajnyak, 48, was initially from Hungary and had simply visited there, in accordance with her Fb web page and a neighbor.

But while a law enforcement source told CNN that the explosion may have been detonated on objective, the Orange County Sheriff's Department did not confirm the information unnamed sources were providing to the media.

A voicemail recording at her business said the spa was closed through Monday and would reopen Tuesday, the day of the blast. The family asked for privacy as they mourn "a mother, a wife, a daughter and a friend". Her face was covered in blood, he said.

The two customers injured underwent surgery Wednesday and were expected to survive. A third victim was treated for smoke inhalation.

Additionally they searched Krajnyak's home in Trabuco Canyon. Neighbors said Krajnyak's college-aged son was away at school at the University of Washington in Seattle when he learned of the blast that killed his mother. The neighbor said Krajnyak and her husband were separated but still living in the same house.

Attorney Andrew Bisom, who represented Krajnyak and Ronilo Vestil during the Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings, said they were far along on their mandated payment plan but hadn't completed it.

Bisom didn't know them nicely and stated there was nothing that stood out about them or their case.

Orange County Undersheriff Don Barnes said the formal identification of the body is continuing Wednesday but authorities believe the victim is Ildiko Krajnyak, a 40-year-old licensed cosmetologist. However, authorities were adamant that they could not confirm where the device came from and how it was delivered.
