Caps' Backstrom (hand) misses Game 3

The Washington Capitals are only two games away from a Stanley Cup Finals appearance.

The Lightning and Capitals played three times during the regular season with the Lightning winning two of those contests. Thank Kucherov on the power play for that one! But Tuesday was a different story.

The Capitals strike back with 9:29 left in the 2nd.

After Tampa Bay scored the game's first three goals, Connolly tallied for the Capitalsmidway through the second period. Before that, Steven Stamkos opened scoring for the Lightning late in the first period after Braden Holtby was called for tripping.

Vasilevskiy was a big part of holding on to the lead as he made seven saves on the penalty kill as part of a bounce-back performance after being criticized for his play earlier in the series.

To Cooper, the issue is that, "for two games, we've dried up". Tampa is 3-1 on the road during the playoffs this year.

The Lightning have scored four goals against the Capitals, one at 5-on-5.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper said Tuesday that the team would not make any lineup changes for Game 3.

"It took a lot of flow out of our game", Trotz said.

The Bolts get a power play.

The Capitals will look to take a 3-0 series lead with a victory tonight. F Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in his first Eastern Conference Finals appearance. "It's how we're playing and our effort, our game plan. In the past he's not had playoff success, and when you do get to taste a little bit of it, it really tastes good". "We're going to need that to keep going".

The Capitals are undefeated since Backstrom went out and are up 2-0 on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the conference finals. "Not good enough for power play, but we will be better for sure".
