Without savings, we have not done too badly

He, however, noted that looking at the condition in which his administration met the country, without savings and the economy badly vandalised, "we have not done too badly".

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, April 15, assured Nigerians that their confidence in the federal government would not be abused, as his administration would do its best to justify it.

He said past leaders failed to exploit, to the advantage of Nigerians, the myriad natural and human resources available to them.

"You could nearly grow food on our roads, as they were abandoned".

The President told the group "we will do our best to justify your trust in us, and that confidence won't be abused".

He, however, commended Nigerians who are in the diaspora defending the country, saying that they have shown courage and sacrifice.

"If in the course of investigations, it (Presidency) discovered that the insurgents were from outside Nigeria, why is the government reportedly paying ransoms to them and even considering amnesty options?"

He specially appreciated members of the Buhari Diaspora Support Organisation for deciding to identify with the country when they could have stayed overseas where they are comfortable.

The National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Chinedu Ogah noted that Buhari's decision would stabilize the economy and further consolidate the fight against corruption and insecurity in the country.

The president said he believes his administration has done relatively well especially in light of the state in which the country was when he took over power. It shows you as a worthy General.

Before the president departed for London last Monday, he had, during the National Executive Committee meeting of the APC, announced his intention to seek reelection in 2019.

"Our dear President, who is already seeking re-election, should not forget to tell the world that due to his harsh policies, the middle class has been wiped off, families are in distress; hunger, poverty and odd diseases are now ravaging our people to the extent that Nigerians, once considered the happiest people on earth, are now resorting to slavery and suicide as options".

"The same God who healed you when you were ill, will grant you victory in the 2019 elections. You are fixing the faulty foundations of our country and the second term is when you will build the enduring structure", he added.

"We, therefore, urge Nigerians to continue to be at alert and support one another in this trying time, irrespective of ethnicity, creed or class, as we collectively work to salvage our nation from the misrule of the incompetent APC, come 2019".
