Vehicle fire sparks brush fire in McClellanville

Crews responded to the brush fire just before 4 p.m. on the 5700 block of Clear Fork Road.

A brush fire spread to an abandoned garage in Cass Township Saturday. Waverly Assistant Fire Chief Michael Tanner said in addition to the fire on Emerson Avenue, the department was also fighting a fire on Whippoorwill Road.

Saturday afternoon multiple local fire agencies were on scene of a brush fire in Carter County.

Area fire crews were busy with brush fires Thursday.

A "red flag warning" for critical fire weather conditions was in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for parts of southwest Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and southeast Ohio.

The fire has burned at least 15 acres and continues to grow.

Officials said they were unsure of what caused the fire, but said they believe it could have been sparked by a power line in the wooded area with mountainous terrain.
