Unnao rape: CBI makes second arrest; Sengar sent to seven-day custody

In Unnao, a BJP MLA - Kuldeep Singh Sengar - has been accused of raping a minor. As per a report in the Times of India, the police will now match the call records of the accused and the victim and try to ascertain their locations at the time of calls.

The agency arrested Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the prime accused in the case, last night after 16 hours of questioning at its office in Lucknow.

Sengar will be produced before a designated court on Monday. The court also asked the CBI to present a status report in the case on May 2.

The uncle of the victim claimed on Sunday that the goons of the legislator and his brother Atul Senger, who is also in jail on rape charges, have been issuing threats to him and his family.

People hold candles and placards during a vigil, organised by the members of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, to show solidarity with the victim and demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, in Jammu, on April 14, 2018.

Singh also told the proclaimed history-sheeter to strike a deal with BJP District President Sanjay Dubey and Babina MLA Rajiv Singh Paricha if he wanted to save himself.

The Allahabad Court had on Friday directed the CBI to take into custody, Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

"BJP leaders have mastered the art of extending state protection to rapists, shaming the victim and her family, defending the accused and crying conspiracy, blatant cover-ups, absolute whataboutery and superficial damage Control, and the Adityanath government has perfected this art to the hilt", Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a statement. "However, this conversation shows that criminals are scared of the government's resolve to eliminate crime in the state".

In the meantime, two BJP Ministers in J&K Cabinet - Industries Minister Chandra Prakash Ganga and Forests Minister Lal Singh - have quit their respective posts after a huge controversy erupted over their participation in a rally supportive of the accused and arrested persons.
