Trump touts support in Rasmussen poll

Two new polls, taken before Donald Trump launched airstrikes on Syria, shows that the US President's approval rating is hovering around 40 per cent as four in 10 Americans backs the way he is handling his job, the media reported.

According to Rasmussen, over half of those surveyed approved of the Commander-in-Chief's job performance with 35% strongly approving and 48% disapproving; a higher job performance rating than former President Obama at the same point in his term.

The NBC/WSJ poll's dip in approval ratings for the president comes during a particularly challenging news cycle; with Trump facing ongoing allegations from adult film star Stormy Daniels that the pair enjoyed an affair shortly after the birth of his youngest son Barron, with wife Melania. An ABC News/ Washington Post poll showed 56 percent disapproved of the job Trump was doing compared to 40 percent who approved. When looking at approval ratings of Trump's handling of the economy, Americans are almost evenly spit, with 46% approval and 48% disapproval. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed the president's approval rating was 39 percent with a disapproval rating of 57 percent.

Another key takeaway from the poll is the advantage Democrats hold in enthusiasm, with 66% of Democrats polled expressing a high level of interest in the November midterm elections, as opposed to 49% of Republicans.

The result was based on the poll of 2,501 voters conducted from Monday to Friday.

The poll surveyed 500 people and the margin of error is 2.5 percentage points.

In both polls, voters were reached via cell phone or landline phone.
