Trump evasive over Syria missiles threat

The Massachusetts Democrat said that while Assad's barbaric use of chemical weapons must never again occur, Trump "must come to Congress for authorization" prior to another military operation against Syria.

Mr Corbyn has also warned that bombing could escalate the situation in Syria.

Trump changed his tone in another tweet that was posted some 40 minutes later, calling for a better relationship with Russian Federation. "But at the same time, the president has a number of options at his disposal, and all of those options remain on the table, and we're continuing to look at each one of them".

President Trump on Wednesday issued a stern warning to Russian Federation, tweeting that he will direct an air strike at Syria in response to last week's chemical attack and chastising the Kremlin for its support of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to strike Syria with missiles while he, back in 2013, had asked "foolish" Barack Obama (then US president) not to attack the Arab country!

Russian lawmakers have warned the United States that Moscow would view an airstrike on Syria as a war crime, saying it could trigger a direct military clash between the two former Cold War adversaries.

Rebels in Syria's Eastern Ghouta surrendered their heavy weapons and their leader left the enclave, while the Syrian flag was raised over the central mosque, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said.

World stocks edged down as anxious investors stayed wary of risky assets.

A similar chemical attack previous year that killed more than 80 people in northern Syria prompted a limited US retaliation that targeted an air base from which aircraft involved in the strike likely deployed from.

"The chemical weapons attack that took place on Saturday in Douma in Syria was a shocking and barbaric act", May told reporters on Wednesday. Douma was later the site of a suspected chemical weapons attack.

The spokeswoman further stressed that Russian military personnel and doctors had visited Douma but found no traces of a chemical attack.

Trump did not detail what a strike would look like, or whether these would be USA missiles. A U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer, the Donald Cook, departed Cyprus on Monday in the Mediterranean Sea.

Trump's Twitter threat, where he said that "nice and new and "smart" missiles were coming for Syria, added another twist to us conversations with allies in Britain and France.

The Syrian conflict has increasingly widened the rifts between Moscow, Washington and European powers and inflamed the bitter rivalries that run across the Middle East.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said he had spoken to Trump on Wednesday and would speak to Putin on Thursday night about the apparent chemical attack.

The prime minister will summon the cabinet on Thursday to discuss the government's response to the suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria.

"Germany will not take part in possible - there have not been any decisions yet, I want to stress that - military action", Merkel said following a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen in Berlin.

Mr Corbyn told the BBC that Parliament "should always be given a say on any military action". It was not clear whether the presence of the investigators could affect the timing of any US military action. Officials suggested such evidence was lacking, or at least not yet at hand. "We stand for serious approaches", he said.
