Spotify swipes a major player from Apple Music

The person largely responsible for that is their head of hip hop programming, Carl Chery.

Apple Music's curated playlists for hip hop has helped introduce new artists to the masses. Chery played an important role for Apple, but also for the music industry in general.

Carl Chery is the one that managed to strike a collaboration between Apple Music and Chance the Rapper, the Grammy-winning artist. It turns out the Swedish company will soon be stealing one of the most valuable people that helped Apple Music rise. Basa has now joined YouTube, which is believed to be preparing to launch its own music streaming service, called Remix. Last week, the tech giant announced that Oliver Schusser was promoted to lead Apple Music worldwide.

Currently, Apple Music has a total of 40 million paid subscribers, while Spotify's latest data shows that their streaming service has approximately 70 million subscribers.

Spotify will be revealing a major update to its mobile application at an event next week, according to an invite obtained by The Verge.

It's unknown what additions Spotify will be announcing.
