SA government condemns recent attacks in Syria

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said a decision on new economic sanctions against Russian Federation will be made "in the near future".

Raising the costs on Moscow for the actions of its client, whether through sanctions or missile strikes, is a sound approach - but this assumes that the United States is attempting to coerce some specific action from Russian Federation.

Announcing the early Saturday morning missile strikes, the American-British-French coalition asserted that their forces were targeting compounds associated with Syria's alleged chemical weapons stockpiles. He denied any chemical weapons attack had occurred, accusing Britain of staging the attack that killed more than 40 people.

Amid a fierce war of words between Russian Federation and the United States and its allies, Moscow has said that a team of chemical experts from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will inspect the site of a suspected poison gas attack in Syria on Wednesday. "It is our concern that they may have tampered with it with the intent of thwarting the efforts of the OPCW Fact-Finding Mission to conduct an effective investigation". His comments at the closed-door meeting were obtained by Reuters.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied Moscow had interfered with any evidence, telling the BBC: "I can guarantee that Russia has not tampered with the site".

The Kremlin dismissed claims that Russian Federation was impeding access. Iraq war veteran and Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard expressed concern that "military action in Syria could escalate into a war with Russian Federation and Iran".

He says the U.S., France and Britain intervened in a "legitimate, multilateral framework" and stressed airstrikes specifically targeted three chemical weapon facilities "without any human life loss". This was at the very beginning after this information [of the attack] appeared.

The United Kingdom's Royal Air Force said four Tornado GR4s fighter jets joined the operation, while France said it had deployed Mirage and Rafale fighter jets.

Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said several coordination meetings were held with the OPCW team, but he did not provide any further details about their schedule. The EU reiterated its condemnation of the use of chemical weapons on Syria, including the most recent reported attack, and said it supports the work of global chemical weapons investigators. State aid trucks handed out bread, rice and pasta to people who had lived under siege for years. The joint body was created in 2015 and found the Syrian government responsible for a sarin gas attack on Khan Shaykhoun, a rebel-held area in northern Syria past year.

Doctors at the hospital where suspected victims were treated told reporters on the tour that none of the patients that night had suffered chemical weapons injuries - they were asphyxiated by dust and smoke in a bombardment.

The group said Al-Riz died after "continuous artillery shelling and air raids on the area".

The U.S. -led strikes did nothing to alter the strategic balance or dent Assad's supremacy and the Western allies have said the aim was to prevent the further use of chemical weapons, not to intervene in the civil war or topple Assad.

"There will be a solution involving everyone who has influence on the region", he said at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Brussels.

Medical student Marwan Jaber said no chemical weapons were used on April 7.

The 28 ministers endorsed the missile strikes and considered steps to deepen Assad's isolation.

"Most of the launches occurred after our strike was over", US Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie, the Joint Staff director, said of Syria's interceptor fires.

Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the main opposition Labour Party, has questioned the legal basis for Britain's involvement.

French president Emmanuel Macron stated that at least chlorine was used in the attack, but that is the only agent formally confirmed by any of the three nations.
