Mourinho sends stern message to United stars after City's Premier League win

"I won eight titles and I am not [over] the moon because I won against Manchester City", he added.

Manchester United handed the Premier League title to Manchester City on Sunday after a woeful performance in a surprise 1-0 defeat at home by bottom club West Bromwich Albion.

It is Abu Dhabi-owned City's third title in seven seasons and their first since former boss Manuel Pellegrini achieved the feat in 2013-14.

Their dominance of the title race has been so emphatic and convincing that every one of their so-called rivals has been beaten by City at least once, and none of them has been able to prevent Pep Guardiola's team from winning the title with a month to spare. It was not done even if we won.

Mourinho claimed afterwards that he had not been happy after the City result because he knew they would win the league regardless and he accused some of his players of getting carried away.

But a first Premier League title, to go with the three La Liga titles he won as manager of Barcelona and the three Bundesliga titles he delivered for Bayern Munich, will be particularly satisfying. "Eight titles are eight titles and three Premier Leagues are three Premier Leagues", he said. "It's been a long season but we need to make sure we can compete until the end, that we keep that second position and we fight for being in another FA Cup final and try to win it".

That is Mourinho's second season at Previous Trafford and he insisted that his spectacular managerial report - at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Actual Madrid - should not be forgotten.

Wherever you look, City have broken records or stand on the verge of creating another.

City are 16 points clear of second placed United, who can only take a maximum of 15 points from their remaining matches.

Inevitably, it will be the failures of this City team that will irritate Guardiola and his players, at the same time offering the critics the opportunity to find fault.

But City needed to win Tottenham on Saturday and hope United lose against West Brom today to be declared winners - and it was so!

However, the celebrations had not even started when Kompany was already thinking about the next season.

A disappointed Juan Mata says Manchester United must shift their focus to a crucial week in their season following their 1-0 loss to West Brom on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho's side had kept the title race just about alive with a dramatic 3-2 derby win in their previous game, but a dismal performance against the league's bottom club means they can not now finish higher than second place.
