Modi takes a metro ride to inaugurate Ambedkar memorial

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ambedkar National Memorial at 26, Alipur Road here on Friday, a government release said on Thursday. Prime Minister board the train from Lok Kalyan Marg metro station and clicked pictures with daily commuters on the way to Alipur Road, Delhi.

PM Modi further pointed out that Baba Saheb was a well-educated man, who could have lived a luxurious life in any part of the developed world but chose to live and work for upliftment of the Dalits and to fight for their rights.

"The prime minister later travelled back via metro, by taking a train from the Vidhan Sabha station to Lok Kalyan Marg station (earlier called Race Course station)", he said. It was at 26, Alipur Road here where Dr Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, had breathed his last on December 6, 1956.

"Prime Minister @narendramodi had laid the foundation stone of the memorial on March 21, 2016".

A meditation hall has also been created. Toran Dwars, a Bodhi Tree, a musical fountain, and facade lighting are other important elements of the memorial, a statement said. The PM's remarks came in the wake of widespread violent protests following a Supreme Court verdict that allegedly diluted the provisions of the Scheduled Caste ad Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 to prevent the misuse of the law. Addressing the media, senior party leader Gopal Rai said the party would also launch a countrywide campaign after Sunday on rising attacks against women. "As a country, as a society we all are ashamed of it", the Prime Minister said.
