Mehbooba Mufti to decide resignation of BJP minister, says Ram Madhav

Mehbooba Mufti to decide resignation of BJP minister, says Ram Madhav

On Friday, two of those BJP leaders - forests minister Lal Singh and industries minister Chandar Prakash Ganga - resigned as anger mounted over the rally. "Madhav would chair the party meeting in Jammu tomorrow", sources said. It is after almost three months that the gory incident has evoked widespread outrage across the country with strong voices being raised by political leaders, social activists, civil society groups and Bollywood celebrities for awarding severe punishment to the perpetrators of the crime.

United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres has termed the gangrape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua a "horrific" incident and asked Indian authorities to ensure that the guilty are brought to justice.

Leading the charge against the BJP ministers on Thursday was former chief minister Omar Abdullah, who slammed Mehbooba over reports that she had expressed displeasure at their conduct before Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a meeting this week. "Our demand is that perpetrators of this heinous crime should be booked, but innocents can not be harassed", said Kaul adding, "The matter is in court now and things will get clear there as well".

"We will speak to our party legislature and also to the two ministers who have submitted their resignations", Madhav, who is also the BJP incharge for Jammu and Kashmir, said.

"There is no trouble in the alliance as such, we are in touch with Mehbooba Mufti Ji, she is of the view that on the ministers issue (Lal Singh and PC Ganga) BJP should take a stand".

The crisis in the PDP-BJP coalition government over participation by two BJP ministers in a rally over the Kathua case subsided after the resignations of the two minister was accepted on Saturday. Advocate and member of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Bindu Doddahatti, said: "It is clear that the bar association which supported the accused is backed by the RSS and BJP. They heard us and went back to their homes", he said. After being missing for a week, her body was found on January 17.

The infamous Kathua Rape Case involves the inhumane rape of Asifa by multiple men inside the Devasthan prayer hall before she was strangled to death to allegedly "dislodge" a group of Bakherwal Muslim nomads from the Rasana village in Kathua.

A police sub-inspector, a head constable and two special police officers were charged for providing help destroy evidence and cover up the crime in exchange for bribes.
