Mariah Carey reveals bipolar disorder

LOS ANGELES-Mariah Carey is thankful for the "overwhelming support" she has received since speaking out about her bipolar diagnoses.

Mariah revealed her secret 17-year-long battle with bipolar II - in which a person experiences hypomanic episodes as well as low, depressive ones - during an interview published this week.

Mariah Carey's former manager Stella Stolper is suing the "Infinity" singer and claims Carey violated "the U.S. Civil Rights Act, a Violation of the Fair Employment and Housing Act" and breached an existing contract.

"Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me", Carey said. "It's not making me feel too exhausted or sluggish or anything like that". The singer took to social media to share an encouraging post. "Mariah Carey and Stella Bulochnikov remain partners in a number of business ventures, and will continue to support each other in those endeavours".

Carey, who is divorced from actor Nick Cannon and shares 6-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan with him, said she made a decision to go public now because she's "just in a really good place right now, where I'm comfortable discussing my struggles with bipolar II disorder". I was working and working and working ... I'm hopeful we can get to a place where the stigma is lifted from people going through anything alone.

Stopler and Carey were "inseparable for years," according to The Daily Mail, which added that Stopler may have eventually overstepped her bounds.

"He's proud of her for coming forward and using her platform for good", a source close to Cannon has told ET.
