Kompany celebrates City title with emotional speech

Three wins from those remaining five games would give City the most Premier League points in a single season and also the most victories of any title victor.

Much of the praise has gone to manager Pep Guardiola for moulding a side being compared to the greatest-ever teams to win the English top flight.

"To make 18 games in a row winning you have to be mentally strong". Previous times, we almost threw it away and that was a feature of every season we won it.

"One team was dominant in Germany and one had Messi, but we are nothing without the team".

The Brazilian's long-range passing to launch City on the counter-attack and beat any high press employed by opponents has been a regular feature of the season, adding another weapon to City's frightening attacking arsenal.

"There's nothing better. Long may it continue and hopefully, every single Cityzen around the world parties for us tonight".

Clean sheets are firmly on the order as an improvement of four on their goal difference would see record number four tumble spectacularly.

Manchester City club captain Vincent Kompany celebrates a win. "We have spent a lot of money to have these incredible players, to make that possible".

But Guardiola believes the 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge was a pivotal moment when Kevin De Bruyne's goal saw them pick up a deserved three points after dominating against the defending champions.

"This one differs in the fact we were consistent the whole season, we played at the level we wanted to and a few times we won it before we almost threw it away".

Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic on Sky Sports: "They deserve the title, they played really good football for the whole year".

"Winning at Stamford Bridge gave us a feeling of, 'OK, against the last champions, we are able to come here and play'".

"But in general we were so stable".

After all basement boys Baggies hadn't won an away game in the league since August, and their last victory was in January.

But they were back to their irresistible best against Spurs as Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan put them 2-0 up early on, with Sterling sealing the win after Christian Eriksen had given the hosts hope. "So we won with guys that are so young".

They still have a seven-point buffer over Chelsea in the race for the Champions League and boss Mauricio Pochettino is content.

But on April 15, 2018, Guardiola won his seventh league title in his last nine seasons as a manager when Manchester United, a week after beating their rivals at the Etihad lost at Old Trafford to the league's bottom side, West Brom.

"Wednesday afternoon we will be back".

Yet if any team look capable of bucking this trend, it is Guardiola's latest potential masterpiece, which, remember, is still a work in progress.
