KKR canter to 71-run win over Delhi

Andre Russell's innings could have been a close contender for the Man of the Match title but it was Nitish Rana's steady performance that won him the award at the end. Young Shivam Mavi had a memorable evening as he scalped Gautam Gambhir's wicket.

Rishabh Pant and Glen Maxwell then put on 62 run stand between them. As it happened Knight Riders bowled out Daredevils for 129 in 14.2 overs to register their second win of the season.

WICKET! Maxwell's entertaining knock comes to an end. If the partnership continues, there is a chance of winning for Delhi Daredevils.

Delhi's chase stuttered at 24-3.

WICKET! Shivam Mavi gets the breakthrough. Chawla bowled the first over, took the wicket of Roy (1), beautifully stumped by Karthik. Earlier, Rana cracked a fine half century while Russell blasted a 12-ball 44 to propel KKR to 200/9 in 20 overs. He hit 5 fours and 5 sixes until KKR's skipper took his catch. They rode on Nitish Rana's 59 and Andre Russell's 12-ball 41 to reach the big total. Trent Boult also bowled the first maiden over of this year's IPL.

Boult started off really well as he picked up a wicket and did not give a run in his first 10 deliveries. Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa struck a partnership for the home side before the latter was dismissed for 35 runs. KKR found themselves a surprising run scorer in Nitish Rana, the pick of the batsmen scoring 59 runs in 35 deliveries. But the fall of his wicket and a brilliant last over by Rahul Tewatia - where the leg-spinner conceded just one run and bagged 3 wickets, restricted the scorecard to 200/9. Trent Boult with the old fashioned yorker that disturbs the timber.

WICKET! Chris Lynn has to go back, Shami with the wicket.

Hosts, Kolkata Knight Riders didn't get off to the best of starts as they lost Sunil Narine in the 3rd over. Robin Uthappa trying to go for a big shot only to get a top edge as the ball goes high and straight into the hands of Nadeem. Lynn looked scratchy and was eventually out for a 29-ball 31. Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Daredevils by 71 runs with 34 balls remaining.

This time around he will be wearing the blue and red jersey of Delhi and will face Dinesh Karthik and co, when these two teams collide in the much anticipated clash at Eden Gardens on Monday.

It was Kolkata's second victory in four matches and it catapulted them to the second spot on the table behind leaders Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have won all their three games so far.

Jason Roy, who was brought into the match against Mumbai in place of Colin Munro, will be looking to carry on the form after playing match winning knock in the last game.

Gambhir too is expected to be among runs at Eden Gardens.

In reply, Glenn Maxwell's 22-ball 47 and Rishabh Pant's 26-ball 43 went in vain, as Delhi were bundled out for 129 with mystery spinner Sunil Narine (3/18) and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav (3/32) plotting most of the damage.
