Jammu and Kashmir: Upset Over Transfer, Armyman Joins Hizbul Mujahideen

Idris Mir, a resident of Safa Nagri village of Wacchi area in Shopian district who was working as a sepoy in the Army's Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JKLI), joined the terror outfit on Sunday, the police said. However, local media reports say the terror outfit released a picture of the runaway soldier holding an AK-47 and claiming he had joined it. His father, Mohammed Sultan Mir, approached the police on Monday morning and reported his son missing. Officially, however, there was no confirmation and police had registered a missing complaint and informed army authorities about the case.

Recently, he was posted to Jharkhand and was unhappy about the move, the police said.

"The family filed a missing report only Monday", Deputy Inspector General of south Kashmir Amit Kumar told The Indian Express. An official said they were ascertaining how and when he got in touch with militants and whether he had provided them any sensitive information.

New Delhi: An Army man has reportedly joined terror group- Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).

"Today afternoon terrorists opened fire in Shopian which resulted in injuries to one civilian identified as Rafiq Lone and a policeman identified as Bilal Ahmad", a police spokesman said.

Shahid was arrested by the NIA in October a year ago after he was found receiving and collecting funds through global wire money transfer from Saudi Arabia-based Hizbul Mujahideen member Aijaz Ahmed Bhat.

The injured were evacuated to hospital for treatment, he said.
