The Harts moved last spring to Woodland, Washington, telling their real-estate broker "they needed a fresh start" after experiencing prejudice in Minnesota and too much media attention in OR after one child was pictured in a viral photo taken at a 2014 police-brutality protest.

The remains of Jennifer and Sarah Margaret Hart, both 38, and three of the children were found in the wreckage of a GMC Yukon after it ran off California Highway 1 and plunged over a steep embankment onto the rocky shoreline below.

The Hart family packed up and left their home in Washington state shortly after a worker from child protective services visited, a neighbor told the department, according to a case report released Friday.

Jen Hart had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit, said Olegario Marin, a public-information officer with the California Highway Patrol.

Under California law, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle with a BAC of 0.08% or higher.

"Toxicology tests also revealed that at least some of the car's passengers had "significant" amounts of a sleep-inducing drug found in Benadryl in their systems", the Associated Press reported today.

In the days after officials found personal belongings of a missing Southern California family along a Northern California river, authorities said Friday they discovered a body.

Authorities did not elaborate on items that were found in the river this week, but said that a vehicle seen going into the river on April 6, when a massive storm swamped areas of Northern California. Investigators said it is not surprising to find items miles away from the scene of the accident.

Sheriff Tom Allman said in a television interview earlier this month that Jennifer Hart "is the woman that we believe was driving the vehicle when it crashed". Devonte Hart, 15, Hannah Hart, 16, and Sierra Hart, 15, are still missing.

Rescuers in the U.S. have found the body of a woman while searching for a missing Indian family of four who are feared drowned in a California river.

Patricia continued: "My eldest son's father died when he was one, and the other children's fathers just don't bother with their kids", she said.

Long before the crash, Sarah Hart pleaded guilty in 2011 to a domestic assault charge in Minnesota over what she said was a spanking given to one of her children.

A family of four taking a West Coast road trip vanished about 30 miles from the site of the Hart family crash, authorities said this week.

But the children's grandmother, Dorothy, says her daughter and grandchildren desperately need their own home - as the youngsters bed down in her living room each night.
