IDF: Captured Iranian Drone Was Set to Hit Israel with Explosives

"The use of chemical weapons crosses a red line that humanity can no longer tolerate", Mr Yoav Gallant, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's security Cabinet, wrote on Twitter.

The U.S., Great Britain and France fired 105 missiles at three sites in Syria early Saturday morning local time, Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, director of the joint chiefs of staff, said Saturday at the Pentagon.

"We can not allow the use of chemical weapons to become normalised - within Syria, on the streets of the United Kingdom, or anywhere else in our world".

An Israeli official said Israel was notified of the strikes ahead of time.

"These are not the actions of a man", Trump said of last weekend's attack in a televised address from the White House Diplomatic Room.

Mattis says the United States, along with France and the United Kingdom, struck because Syrian President Bashar Assad "did not get the message" when the US launched airstrikes after a chemical attack in 2017.

"I think we actually have to penalise Russian Federation and Iran for their support of Syria".

Iran's involvement in Syria in support of Assad has alarmed Israel, which has said it will counter any threat.

In a letter to US District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan, lawyers for Mehmet Hakan Atilla, a former deputy general manager at Turkey's state-controlled Halkbank, said "notions of comity" weighed against a stiff punishment at his May 7 sentencing.

"With their actions, the U.S.is deepening a humanitarian catastrophe in Syria", Russian President Vladimir Putin said, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Yemeni government on Saturday accused Iran of supplying Shiite Houthi rebels with drones used for cross-border attacks into Saudi Arabia. "We thank them both", Trump added.

Israel has not confirmed or denied carrying out the strike on the Syrian base, but Israel's military said the drone it downed in February was sighted taking off from that base.

Analyst Hossein Sheikholeslam, a former Iranian ambassador to Damascus, told state television the attacks would help unite Syrians behind the government.

A picture released by the French Defence audiovisual communication and production unit (ECPAD) shows the launching of a cruise missile from a French military vessel in the Mediterranean sea towards targets in Syria overnight. It was not immediately clear whether Trump meant the allied military operation would extend beyond an initial nighttime round of missile strikes. "This massacre was a significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons use by that very awful regime", he added.

"Syria continues to carry out murderous actions and to be a base for these and other actions, including by Iran, that puts its territory, forces and leadership in danger", the terse statement said. Trump has already indicated he would like to withdraw the estimated 2,000 US ground troops in northern Syria, where they've been assisting Syrian Kurds to defeat Islamic State militants.

"Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible".
