Ian Somerhalder To Star In Netflix Series V-Wars

Based on the IDW comic of the same name by writer Jonathan Maberry, V-Wars follows the adventures of Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder) as he tries to understand the nature of the disease that has transformed his best friend Michael Fayne and so many others into vampires.

Ian Somerhalder couldn't stay away from the vampire trope for long! The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Somerhalder will star in the 10-episode series V-Wars, based on the IDW novel of the same name. Somerhalder is attached to star and also direct the drama, which was developed as straight-to-series in 2014 as the initial project under IDW Entertainment and then-eOne TV's first-look co-production deal. The mysterious illness transforms Michael and begins to spread, splitting society up into factions as uninfected people begin to fight back against the new vampire threat.

Ian Somerhalder is sticking with the whole vampire thing after signing on for Netflix's V-Wars. Swann is desperate to find out what is happening and why, while his friend Fayne becomes the leader of the vampire underground.

The streaming giant has given the drama series a 10-episode first season order.

Brad Turner (Stargate Atlantis, 24) is set to direct the pilot episode, and will serve as an executive producer on the series.

Ian Somerhalder has been cast in Netflix's V-Wars. He now has a pod deal with TVD producers Warner Bros. IDW entertainment and High Park Entertainment will produce, with IDW distributing worldwide (except Canada). Television with actress Nikki Reed, his wife, via their Rare Bird Productions banner. The actor portrayed the character of Damon Salvatore on the CW series Vampire Diaries for eight seasons.

V-Wars arrives as Netflix continues to spend an estimated $8 billion annually on original programming.

He is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment, and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.
