Former mayor pleads guilty in child porn case

A jury found Miguel Garcia guilty on Wednesday, April 11 in Kent County Circuit Court of using a computer to commit a crime, possessing child pornography and capturing an image of an unclothed person.

A man arrested in March who police said had around 700,000 files of child pornography pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of possession of child exploitative material.

The boy said he first met Thomas a few years ago when he spent 10 months in Piney Ridge, which treats children suffering from sexual abuse disorders, according to its website.

Nelson resigned from the mayoral post after his arrest.

Brasel was sentenced to five years of probation and can have no unsupervised access to minor children or the Internet as part of a plea agreement, court records show.

A registered sex offender here in Eastern Carolina is accused of having child pornography.

Mares is scheduled to be sentenced June 4.

The charges came from a 2017 investigation by Grand Rapids Police and the Michigan State Police.
