Donkey Kong's Controversial King Is Dethroned

Donkey Kong's Controversial King Is Dethroned

Over the weekend, Mitchell addressed the ruling in a video posted to YouTube.

Billy Mitchell, the man credited with getting the highest ever score in the video games Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, and Pac-Man, and the first to get a ideal score in Pac-Man, has been stripped of his Guinness World Record titles.

In what came as a shock to absolutely nobody who has seen the King of Kong documentary, star Billy Mitchell was banned from competition and had all of his high scores removed for cheating. In a new statement, the former King of Kong denied the charges against him, promising that his Donkey Kong scores are genuine and authentic. The dispute alleged that Mitchell achieved his scores on an emulator and not original hardware, which opens the door to cheating through a variety of methods.

As reported by Eurogamer, Mitchell released the following statement through Old School Gamer Magazine, a publication he is affiliated with. "Twin Galaxies was the original source of verification for these record titles and in line with their decision to remove all of Mr. Mitchell's records from their system, we have disqualified Mr. Mitchell as the holder of these two records". The more damning implication is that Mitchell-previously credited with being the first to score a flawless game on Pac-Man and the first to crack 1 million points on Donkey Kong-faked his games.

"The fact of the matter is, now there's a true professional due diligence being done to investigate things that happened as far as 35 years ago", he said.

"Everything was done professionally, according to the rules, according to the integrity that was set up".

Only time will tell what Mitchell's investigation will bring, or if Twin Galaxies and Guinness will even consider any evidence that's uncovered. Witnesses, documents, everything will be made available to you, ' said Mitchell.
