Division Growing in Fort St. James Marijuana Debate

The Health, Finance and Public Security Ministries will allow 50 cannabis farms to export medical marijuana products, the ministries said in a joint statement Wednesday. "We have literally filled up our jails with people who are nonviolent and frankly do not belong there". Also joining the company's board of advisors is former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld, who has more recently served as a board member for a tobacco company.

"If this ruling is upheld, it will dramatically change patient access", he said. For doctors to harness the full potential of cannabis to treat chronic pain, more research must be done to track individual patients' experiences using it, not just looking at aggregated data.

Paul Ryan, Boehner's successor when he resigned as speaker in 2015, had talked about the work of getting the smell of cigarette smoke out of the speaker's office after Boehner's departure.

"I made a decision to get involved because of the struggles of our country's veterans and the opioid epidemic, after learning how de-scheduling the drug can potentially help with both crises", said Boehner, now 68.

"I support the use of cannabis for medical purposes and its export to the world, in light of our advanced knowledge in the field", Erdan said.

Weld and Boehner also agree that the issue of cannabis legalization is largely a debate over whether or not the 10 Amendment grants states the legal right to legalize a federally-prohibited drug.

Currently, any illegal uses of marijuana are subject to enforcement by the city's Community Preservation Division, which is generally complaint-driven, as well as the Sheriff's Department, Peterson said in a previous interview with the Signal.

Both of the studies - published this month in JAMA Internal Medicine, a journal of the American Medical Association - incorporated Washington state data. "If there was more political courage coming out of Albany, we would have done this already". Over the past 20 years a growing number of states have experimented with their right to offer cannabis programs under the protection of the 10th amendment.

Cannabis advocates have lauded the former Congressman's public shift in favor of cannabis.
