Conchita Wurst Reveals HIV Diagnosis

Conchita Wurst Reveals HIV Diagnosis

"I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others, which couldn't be further from the truth".

Conchita took part in European singing competition Eurovision back in 2014, triumphing with her song Rise Like A Phoenix. She also explained the situation that surrounded the announcement - of course in her native language, German. The photo showed her with her signature look: long dark dreads flowing down, correctly done, and her face framed by her beard, outstanding yet flawless.

Said Wurst: "I have been HIV-positive for many years". The pop star was blackmailed to reveal she was HIV positive.

"We applaud Conchita for handling this with such dignity and including in her post that people living with HIV who are on effective treatment, like her, can't pass the virus on". She also wanted her loved ones to avoid the unwarranted stigma of having a relative with HIV, but said they have supported her "unconditionally since day one".

She said she had chose to come out with the news herself before her friend did.

She continues: "Secondly, it is an information that I believe is mainly relevant to those people with whom sexual contact is an option".

In a post on Instagram the Austrian drag queen said she has been living with the virus for many years. HIV is heavily stigmatized, as are HIV-positive people. Until relatively recently contracting the HIV virus was widely regarded as deadly, as the infection would progress to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), undermining patients' ability to fight off disease.

Conchita claimed she didn't want to say anything because of her family.

Wurst said her treatment for HIV, which is spread when infected fluid enters the bloodstream, was going well.

Therefore, it can be possible for an infected person to maintain a sexual relationship without transmitting the virus, as there would be a negligible amount of HIV present in the seminal fluid or vaginal secretions.

"Coming out is better than being outed", she wrote, according to the Guardian.

"You are a referent to a lot of people, some of them are very young and live in fear, but today you have changed thousands of lives being fearless, fighting the blackmail and rising once again full of light", claimed a social media user.

Conchita Wurst confessed to her fans that she's HIV-positive. I'm happy and healthy, and I'm stronger, more motivated and liberated than ever.
