Commonwealth Games: Ezuruike, 3 Others Win Gold In Powerlifting

Nigeria on Tuesday claimed four gold and two silver in the para powerlifting competition of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, with Esther Oyema breaking her world record to secure a third consecutive Commonwealth title.

The 25-year old Nigerian came second at his maiden Commonwealth Games appearance behind New Zealand's Tomas Walsh who won Gold at 21.41m and Canada's Tim Nedow got the Bronze at 20.91m.

He lifted 224.3kg while countryman Paul Kehinde claimed the silver medal with a 219.9kg lift.

The silver medal was won by Yee Khie Jong from Malaysia won lifted 188.7kg, while India's Sachin Chandhary won bronze with a 181.0kg effort.

In the women's lightweight category, Oyema took the gold and also set a new world record of 141.6kg to smash the old record of 126 kg also set by her in Glasgow, Scotland on August 2, 2014.

Rio 2016 Paralmypic Games gold medallist Ndidi Nwosu won gold in the women's heavyweight with 110.4 points with clean lifts of 110kg and 120kg.

On the medal's table at the time of this report, Nigeria is in 10th position with three gold and four silver medals.
