The body of Siddhant Thottapilly was found about 4pm local time on Monday submerged in the Eel River about 9.5 kilometres downstream from where the family vehicle reportedly crashed, Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Captain Gregory Van Patten said in a statement.

Searchers have found the body of the last missing person from a family that perished after their SUV plunged into a rain-swollen river in Northern California. The family had been driving along US Highway 101 from Portland, Oregon, to their home in Santa Clarita, according to the San Jose Police Department.

The vehicle was encased in a large amount of sediment from the river current and it took hours for the auto to be towed out, leading to the removal of the two bodies, the sheriff's office was cited as saying by the New York Times.

The boy's mother, Soumya Thottapilly, 38, was found Friday miles from the crash site in an area previously covered with water from the storm-swollen river.

"At approximately 4 pm on April 16 water searchers located the body of a juvenile male submerged in the Eel River approximately 6 miles north of the reported crash site", the statement said.
