BJP trying to erode Ambedkar legacy: Congress

"This is clearly a demonstration to politicise the issue".

Even Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said they were protesting to awaken the Modi government from its "slumber". "Our daughters will get justice", he said at an event to inaugurate the B R Ambedkar memorial here. "India is waiting", he said.

Huge crowd had gathered at the India Gate here on Thursday midnight to protest against the incidents of rape in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh and Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi today described the rape and killing of an 8-year-old girl in Kathua as "unimaginable brutality" that cannot go unpunished, and wondered how anybody can seek to protect the culprits. Thousands are present here including the common people and people from all parties.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Wadra participated in a candlelight procession last night at India gate to focus attention on rapes and gender violence in the country.

She accused the government of dividing society in the name of food, religion, region and caste, adding that the BJP had no right to point a finger at the Congress.

Earlier in the day, Rahul took to Twitter and said, "Like millions of Indians my heart hurts tonight". He said there were repeated incidents of violence, rape and murder of women in the country.

The long-delayed charge sheet in the Kathua case indicates that eight-year-old Asifa was held in a captivity in a temple, raped by six men, and then bludgeoned to death. PM had given a slogan "Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao" and it's in his regime that our girls are being raped.

In another case, BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly raping a minor girl in Unnao town of the state.

The BJP spokesperson also clarified that her party does not support the act of two BJP Jammu and Kashmir ministers who were seen at a rally supporting the alleged Kathua rapists.
