Late last month, Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel - often referred to as Airtel - announced its Airtel VoLTE Beta program as a part of which it offers 30 GB of free data to the participants. Airtel said the offer will complement its "Mera Pehla Smartphone" initiative, under which the company is partnering multiple mobile handset manufacturers to create an open ecosystem of affordable 4G smartphones and bring them to the market for virtually the price of a feature phone.

Representing Airtel, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar submitted that Reliance Jio is a jealous competitor and elaborated that "free access" mentioned in the advertisement meant free subscription of HOTSTAR network. Alternatively, users can also claim the free data benefits on My Airtel app.

Bharti Airtel has launched a new offer under its "Mera Pehla Smartphone" initiative under which all new 4G users will be getting 30GB of free data after they switch to a new 4G smartphone. Users will get the free data within 24 hours of claiming it. Local, STD and incoming roaming calls are unlimited in this plan.

This is the most recent data offering from the main telecom specialist co-op as it tries to battle the notoriety of Jio's 4G benefit in the nation.
