Why the Broncos are one of the favorites to land Kirk Cousins

Over the last several weeks, there has been plenty of talk surrounding Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins as he ventures into free agency for the first time in his career. His free agency will be watched like a hawk across the entire NFL.

Other teams may have made a phone call and/or placed a ballpark number on the table, but the thinking is that the Jets and Vikings are the two truly serious candidates for Cousins' services.

The Jets and Vikings look like the primary suitors and Cousins' decision probably comes down to those two teams, but it's worth noting that, according to Mike Jurecki of 98.7 FM Arizona's Sports Station, Arizona is prepping a monster offer for Cousins. Cousins published a farewell post on his personal website thanking the Redskins organization. Instead, the football world has honed in on the tags Cousins attached to his post. With a playoff roster elsewhere on both sides of the ball, this is a move the Bills cannot only afford to make, they simply have to pull the trigger.

With teams officially able to court him, Kirk Cousins said goodbye Monday to the Washington Redskins. The Jets, however, have more than $90 million in cap space to play with and are not that far off from contention.

Per Rapoport, the Minnesota Vikings remain the frontrunners to get Cousins but he won't make a decision until he meets with coaches and others from teams he's interested in. Cousins became a free agent after playing the last two years on the franchise tag, netting a total of almost $44 million. Money may not be at the top of his wish list. Instead, they agreed to trade for Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith on January 30.
