TSU surprises La Marque Waffle House worker with scholarship

Evoni Williams, an 18-year-old student who lives in LaMarque, Texas, was working her shift on Saturday when an elderly customer asked her to help him cut up his food. She and her mother were brought to tears when she was presented with a 16-thousand dollar scholarship to Texas Southern University.

Evoni Williams was pictured by Waffle House customer Laura Wolf, who uploaded the touching scene to Facebook. I'm thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this world seems so negative. Despite the attention, she said she felt it was the right thing to do.

She said she was working at Waffle House only to save up for college.

In this representational photo, Waffle House employees take a smoke break at their restaurant which sits 75 feet from the beach as the eye of Hurricane Nate pushes ashore in Biloxi, Mississippi, Oct. 7, 2017.

Wolf's unbelievable photo has since been shared more than 40,000 times on Facebook.

"I was never raised to bash people. and was raised to try and help, and try and give", Williams told a local television station.

On Thursday, a young Waffle House worker in La Marque whose act of kindness was captured on camera and posted to social media was honored by the town's mayor.

Wolf told KHOU-TV that William's kindness, despite how busy the restaurant was, really made an impression on her. "I had no coordination feeling or strength in my hands", Charpentier said.

"It's something I would do any other day", she told KVUE-TV.

"That's me all the time giving helping serving", said Williams.
