The Witchwood is Hearthstone's first expansion of 2018

Blizzard has announced its first Hearthstone expansion for the Year of the Raven, titled The Witchwood. The heroes all have a unique hero power and their own cards to help build new strategies, and each encounter you clear nets you loot in the form of cards to improve your deck for the remainder of the hunt.

The expansion brings a few new gameplay systems to Hearthstone.

"Dark magic has twisted the creatures of the forest and set them loose upon the Gilnean capital in Azeroth, but King Genn Greymane and his lycanthropic subjects won't make for easy prey", Blizzard said in an announcement. "They can not attack heroes until the turn after they enter play, however". This means that, if a player has a 3-mana Echo minion on turn 9, that card can be played a total of three times. Much like that adventure, Monster Hunt will have players defeating bosses and drafting decks as they go, though they'll have to wait two weeks after the set launches before this mode goes live.

Coming in April to Windows® and Mac® PCs; Windows, iOS, and Android™ tablets; and mobile phones, The Witchwood card packs will be winnable in Hearthstone's Arena mode, and players can purchase them with in-game gold or real money at the same prices as Hearthstone'sother card packs. Buying into the 50 pack pre-order of The Witchwood will grant you an additional 20 packs in addition to the exclusive card back.

Hearthstone is now available on PC, Mac, and mobile platforms.

Best known for blockbuster hits including World of Warcraft®, Hearthstone®, Overwatch®, the Warcraft®, StarCraft®, and Diablo® franchises, and the multi-franchise Heroes of the Storm®, Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.

While it's unclear whether this new mode will make use of the Dungeon Run's procedurally generated dungeon-building systems, Hearthstone's Lead Missions Designer Dave Kosak hinted at revisiting the format in an interview with Gaming Trend last month.

HearthStone's next expansion, "The Witchwood", will launch in April. We'll keep you informed as to when a release date becomes available, but it won't be long before you're engaging in battle. Forward-looking statements believed to be true when made may ultimately prove to be incorrect.
