Still in alliance with BJP, but will fight for Andhra's rights: TDP

MLC Buddha Venkateswara Rao said backward regions of Rayalaseema and North Andhra districts needed special assistance and the BJP members should take it up with the party high command because they were from Andhra Pradesh. The proposed Bill, introduced in the wake of Nirav Modi-PNB bank fraud, is meant for defaulters who have an outstanding of Rs 100 crore or more and have escaped from the country.

The Upper House witnessed uproarious scenes on Monday forcing the Chair to adjourn it for the day.

YSR Congress Party on Saturday said that the double standards of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has come to the fore once again with the two MPs pulling out of the Cabinet but the Party continuing in the coalition and TDP not announcing its future course of action in the Parliament with regard to the Special Category Status (SCS). He questioned the provision of seizing assets of an accused before he was proved guilty. Lok Sabha was adjourned by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for some time. "I don't think there is anything wrong in that", YS Chowdary had said. "It's very bad and sending wrong message outside", Naidu said as he adjourned the House till 2 p.m.

The Congress and the AIADMK members were also on their feet. The House had to be adjourned for the day as the protests continued.

Naidu urged the agitated members to go back to their seats and allow the House to conduct the Zero Hour. The sentiments of the Andhra has to be addressed by Chandrababu Naidu, and in these circumstances, unless we support our people, we hear them out and work for it, it does not make sense.

"Hence we are strongly asking him (to honour the promises made in the Reorganisation Act as well as those made in Rajya Sabha by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh),"Mr Naidu said".

Unrelenting members from the TDP stormed the well, carrying placards demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh while the AIADMK demanded the setting up of a Cauvery water management board.

Amid the noisy protests, Ahluwalia laid on the table of the House the statement regarding the status of implementation of recommendations contained in the 35th report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Rural Development on Demands for Grants (2017-18).
