'Sicario: Day of the Soldado' Trailer

'Sicario: Day of the Soldado' Trailer

In the drug war, there are no rules - and as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the United States border, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) calls on the mysterious Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin, to escalate the war in nefarious ways.

Italian director Stefano Sollima (Suburra, Gomorrah) has big shoes to fill, helming a sequel to a standout picture from acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049). Watch the Sicario Day of the Soldado trailer below.

The Sicario sequel, nicknamed Sicario 2 as first, then Soldado, most recently Sicario 2: Soldado and now re-titled to Sicario: Day of the Soldado with the release of a new trailer. Given that the film was a massive critical success and did earn a profit at the box office, I guess it was surprising that a studio would be interested in a sequel, but it felt that it was all just a cheap cash-in.

When the mission is exposed, and Graver orders Alejandro to terminate Isabela, the killer's cold facade cracks.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this film.

Writer Taylor Sheridan has teased some story details about the sequel during an interview with Collider. And while I'd much rather have another film featuring Emily Blunt, Brolin and Del Toro are strong enough actors to make for an interesting dynamic.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado, produced by Black Label Media, will hit theatres on 29 June. "You want to see this thing through?"

In the upcoming sequel, Brolin's Matt Graver has been tasked by the USA government with turning up the heat on Mexican drug cartels, whose actions are now being classified as terrorist activity. "To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) reteams with the mercurial Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro)".
