Shepard Smith, Fox News sign new multi-year contract

They'll have to learn to live with it. Shep just signed a new multiyear deal with Fox, which no doubt helps explain his boldness in sniffing at Fox's bread-and-butter commentators.

Smith's comments in an interview with Time Magazine published Thursday were a not-so-veiled dig at hosts like Hannity, who criticized Smith previous year as "so anti-Trump". Chris Wallace has criticized the "opinion" side before, but for specific failings like too-frequent media-bashing. Hannity called Smith "clueless" about Hannity's own show, while Ingraham said Smith's statements about Fox News' opinion programming were "inconsiderate & inaccurate".

In the article-titled, "Shep Smith Has the Hardest Job on Fox News"-Smith says different hosts have different fidelities". I get that. I don't work there.

"I don't really watch a lot of opinion programming", Smith continued. I wouldn't work there. "I don't want to sit around and yell at each other and talk about your philosophy and my philosophy", he said. "They can say whatever they want", he told Time Magazine in an interview published Thursday that didn't go quite far enough to call out co-workers like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.

Fox News chief news anchor Shepard Smith announced Friday afternoon he was taking a "previously-planned one-week vacation" and joked that when he returns "everything will be peachy-keen & hunky-dory". That sounds awful to me. Smith, who anchors Shepard Smith Reporting, and is managing editor of breaking news, has been with the channel since the start, in 1996. "His powerful storytelling on both television and digital platforms has elevated our entire newsgathering process".

In an interview with TIME, Smith said he wanted to continue because he's anxious what would happen if he left. "Not going to do it", Smith said.

Fox News wouldn't comment on how many years the contract was extended.
