Microsoft suggests Fortnite PS4 vs. Xbox One cross-play could happen

'Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has always been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles.

Xbox One will support cross-play with Fortnite: Battle Royale Mobile.

Are you excited for this change? On Twitter, Epic Games' Nick Chester revealed that Xbox One players will only be able to play Fortnite with PC, Mac, and Mobile players, and PlayStation 4 players will also only be able to play against PC, Mac, and mobile players.

Funnily enough, Epic had "accidentally" enabled cross-play for Xbox One and PS4 players that was quickly shut down as a "configuration" issue.

Epic Games made quite a few waves this past week, announcing its hit game Fortnite for mobile platforms, along with the potential for crossplay.

However, Sony is still not "willing" to feature cross-play with other platforms as they want to safeguard their players' information and the children from "external influences" and that's according to Sony Interactive Entertainment's Jim Ryan.

Sadly, there was no mention of Xbox One - PS4 cross-play suggesting that Sony is still maintaining its stance against cross-play between the two platforms. The matchmaking across devices will be opt-in, and it's primarily created to allow groups of friends to play with each other, as playing from your phone against a skilled PC player won't be an experience you'll want to opt into regularly.

May it be a business decision or greed, soon, Sony will eventually join the cross-platform train in the future.
