McGeouch and McTominay among six new faces in McLeish's first Scotland squad

McGeouch and McTominay among six new faces in McLeish's first Scotland squad

The pair were among six players to be called into the senior set-up for the first time on Monday. It's a shame they play in the same position but Tierney can adapt.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is also in line for his maiden call-up after pledging allegiance to his father's country of birth, despite the best efforts of England boss Gareth Southgate.

"We've got 27 players in the squad and we know what Snoddy can do, so I don't think it's controversial, there is no hidden agenda or anything like that, it's just there are other players he wants to have a look at".

Striker McBurnie, who has scored five goals in seven appearances on loan to Barnsley from Swansea City, and Aberdeen centre-half McKenna will be missing as Gemmill's side face Andorra in a European Championship qualifier on 23 March.

"But it's brilliant that an appointment has been made and everyone can look to the future and getting what we want, which is a successful national team".

There is no doubt that on his day the 25-year-old midfielder is one of the best players in Scotland, but the surprising factor is that the player is only just back from injury after nearly two months out with a hernia injury.

"It is a real motivation for all the players to continue their progression".

The former Scotland global says it was flattering to be associated with the post.

Gemmill was linked with the senior team vacancy before McLeish's unveiling.

"It is great for that link and the knowledge within the senior staff of what is available to them".
