Malcolm Butler To Sign With Titans For Five Years, $61 Million

According to multiple reports, former New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intends to sign a contract with the Tennessee Titans.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network later tweeted the details of Butler's big-time deal with Tennessee: five years, more than $61 million, more than $30 million guaranteed.

Butler broke into the league in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of Division II West Alabama. slowly earning Bill Belichick's trust before stepping up to intercept Russell Wilson late in the fourth quarter of a 28-24 Super Bowl win.

Despite his sudden stardom, Belichick said at one point in 2015 that Butler, "as much as any player that I've been around, has really not changed very much from Year 1 to Year 2". Butler doesn't appear to have any chance of returning to New England and is one of the top corners available. He had the game-saving interception at the goal line to help New England beat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, but was suspiciously left on the sideline as the Patriots lost Super Bowl LII against the Philadelphia Eagles this year. Between those career landmarks, Butler started 54 of a possible 55 games and played more defensive snaps than any Patriots player. He'll play for former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel and former Pats' personnel man Jon Robinson, who are now the Titans' head coach and general manager, respectively. Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe, Cyrus Jones, Jonathan Jones, Ryan Lewis and Jomal Wiltz are now the six cornerbacks on the Patriots' roster.
