Kansas employment remained flat in January

The state lost jobs in the government and financial activities sectors and saw little change in manufacturing. The total number of working Iowans decreased to 1,625,300 in January - 300 lower than in December and 800 lower than a year ago.

Indiana's unemployment rate stands at 3.3 percent for December and remains lower than the national rate of 4.1 percent. "The state's employers are looking to hire the 51,000 job seekers".

Over the year, the Kansas economy added 9,100 nonfarm jobs, or 0.6 percent, the department said. Gains were partially offset by losses in the Other (-1,500), which includes Mining and Logging, IT and Other Services, and the Professional and Business Services (-700) sectors.

"Wisconsin workers are benefitting from a strong labor market, demonstrated by our record low unemployment rate for the month of January, and a new all-time high for number of individuals employed in the state of Wisconsin", said state Department of Workforce Development secretary Ray Allen.

The District's rate in January was 5.8 percent, down from 5.9 percent in December, and down from 6.0 percent in January 2017. The unemployment rate is down 0.4 percentage points from January 2017 and a full point from January 2016.

In February, the US economy added 313,000 new payroll jobs, the biggest single monthly increase since July 2016.
