These caveats must be deliberated as the $62 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor approaches completion, with expansions already being explored such as between Gwadar and Chabahar.

Yestrday, Zarif had said that Iran has offered China and Pakistan to participate in the Chahbahar seaport project.

The development comes in the backdrop of India and Iran inking an agreement to lease operation control of a part of the port to New Delhi for 18 months.

Tehran:Iran has invited Pakistan to become a part of the Chabahar project, Pakistani media have reported.

In November previous year, India delivered the first consignment of wheat to Afghanistan through the Chabahar Port.

The Chabahar Port has given India access to Afghanistan and Central Asia. Pakistan has in the past tried to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Qatar and Saudi Arabia and Iran, but could not convince Riyadh to accept its good offices.

The senior Pakistani diplomat stressed that Iran and Pakistan will always continue to work very closely to make sure that they work for a mutual benefit.

"Our relations with India, just like Pakistans relations with Saudi Arabia, are not against Islamabad as we understand Pakistans relations with Saudi Arabia are not against Iran", the Iranian foreign minister said.

Irans Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who is on a three-day visit to Islamabad, said the Chabahar port project was not meant to "encircle Pakistan. strangulate anybody".

"We are taking measures to do that and there is an open invitation to Pakistan to participate in that", he said. Zarif said, "There is no reason for hostility between Iran and Saudi Arabia". The Iranian minister also, meanwhile, extended the invitation to China.

Chabahar is said to be becoming a success story in the India-Iran relationship.

Tensions between the two countries flared up after India accused Pakistan of involvement in attacks on its military posts in a bordering town - an accusation Pakistan strongly denies. The first phase of the Chabahar port in south-east Iran, which India is developing, was inaugurated in December previous year. The visiting Foreign Minister is being accompanied by a large trade delegation from Iran.
