Harry Kane facing six-week layoff

Harry Kane is reportedly out until May with an ankle injury.

Kane got his foot caught under goalkeeper Asmir Begovic after half hour at Bournemouth and had to be taken off. Mauricio Pochettino afterwards admitted it left him anxious.

With the World Cup in Russian Federation now less than 100 days away, the FA will not want Kane rushed back from his injury by Spurs.

According to reports in the British media on Tuesday, the injury is serious enough that Kane is facing a race against time to return to action in time for the World Cup in June.

If a scan confirms ligament damage as expected, with around six weeks out a possible timescale, England's hierarchy do not want any risks taken that could impact his chances at the World Cup this summer.

And the north Londoners believe the injury is closer in seriousness to the first time he suffered the setback and missed seven weeks from September 2016, than the last one when he was out for just over three.

It means for club he is likely to miss at least four Premier League games, the FA Cup quarter-final with Swansea and a semi-final should they make it that far.

Kane, who has scored 35 times for Tottenham this season, would only have a handful of matches remaining this term to prove his fitness to England manager Gareth Southgate.

While the England striker is also set to miss Spurs' key Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City next month.

The injury occurred after a collision with Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in the first half at Dean Court.
