For Now, Packers Rank 13th in Cap Space After Jordy Nelson's Release

"These are tough days when you have to release a player who means so much to your organization, to your team", Gutekunst said, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

"Hard to find the right words today to express what 87 means to me".

"We can not thank Jordy enough for all that he has given the Green Bay Packers and our community for the past 10 years", said GM Brian Gutekunst.

The Packers picked Nelson in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft and he has 550 career catches for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns.

The emergence of Davante Adams as the Packers' top outside receiver also likely helped Gutekunst move on from Nelson before Cobb. A hypothetical Amari Cooper-Nelson-Seth Roberts receiving trio is apparently an upgrade in Oakland's eyes over a Cooper-30-year-old Crabtree-Roberts trio.

"I don't think it has any correlation to that", Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said after the Packers released Nelson. That's the same year he was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

However, the Pats remain the best option for Nelson out of those teams if he wants the best chance to play in the Super Bowl next season.

According to Jason Wilde, Nelson reportedly was offered a deal around the 10-year veteran minimum by the Packers, and it obviously didn't line up with what he's looking for in the 2018 season.

Last season, Nelson finished third on the Packers with 53 receptions for 483 yards and six touchdowns. The Nelsons have spoken about their adoption of two children.

The Green Bay Packers agreed to a deal with tight end Jimmy Graham yesterday, giving Aaron Rodgers another weapon on offense.

Nelson took over for Donald Driver in hosting the yearly charity softball game played at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. It would be the easiest transition for Nelson, as he'd go from Rodgers throwing him the ball to Tom Brady.

Graham had a four-year stretch in New Orleans where he caught a total of 46 touchdowns.
