Explosion In Austin Texas Leaves One Dead

A package has exploded at a residence in Austin, killing a teenager and seriously injuring a woman, officials in Texas say, just over a week after a package bomb killed one person. Austin-Travis County EMS tells the station a teenage male was killed and woman in her 40s was taken to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries after the explosion in East Austin.

Federal investigators with the FBI and ATF are assisting the Austin Police Department with the investigation.

Medics said to expect road closures and heavy traffic delays in the area while officials investigate.

KVUE also reports that investigators are looking to determine if this explosion may be connected to another deadly explosion in Austin that happened on March 2.

The latest explosion occurred about five miles from the Austin Convention Center, the site of South by Southwest activities on Monday.

Police said at the time they believed the Haverford Drive explosion was an isolated incident.

As this story is developing, more information will be updated as made available.
