DT Ngata intends to sign with Eagles

The defending champion Philadelphia Eagles have added another veteran with championship experience to their already stuffed defensive front.

Nose tackle Haloti Ngata agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, strengthening one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. But line depth was huge for the Eagles last season; seven of their defensive linemen played at least 400 snaps, most in the National Football League, per ESPN Stats & Information.

Ngata has compiled 31.5 sacks during his 13-year career with the Lions and Baltimore Ravens.

The Eagles are also expected to sign former Denver Broncos linebacker Corey Nelson to a one-year deal worth $2.25 million, according to multiple reports.

Needless to say, that production was a far cry from what the Ravens were used to when Ngata racked up five Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pro selections during his nine-season stay in Baltimore.

He was a large part of Detroit's run defense the past three years and served as a mentor to younger defensive linemen, including A'Shawn Robinson and Akeem Spence.

Although he has contemplated retirement in the past, Ngata likely didn't want to go out while he was injured.

Nelson, who turns 26 next month, missed the final 11 games of 2017 with a torn biceps.

That said, Ngata can still be a solid early-down gap-clogger who specializes in stuffing the run.

He's been selected to five Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro twice.
