CM Punk will make MMA return at UFC 225 in Chicago

It wasn't a traditional announcement, but how can it be when you're responding to a troll on Twitter?

Almost 21 months to the day that Punk first set foot in The Octagon, the former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar will make his return to mixed martial arts in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, for the UFC 225 event on June 9. He's been a constant presence at the Roufusport camp in Milwaukee, Wis., training alongside the likes of UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis, former ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren and other notables. But Chicago is an important location for Punk - it's his hometown, so this fight will carry even more significance than it already does. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the full lineup ands bout order haven't been finalized.

After that defeat at the hands of Gall, UFC President Dana White had mentioned to the media that Punk's next fight probably should take place somewhere else. He made his MMA debut at UFC 203 18 months ago, and it did not go well. We'll see what happens.

"There is no deal for CM Punk to fight anywhere, so we'll see how that thing plays out". If Punk's statement is to be taken at face value, he'll be fighting at the event.

All signs seem to point towards a matchup with Mike "The Truth" Jackson, who was originally vying for a shot at Punk in his UFC debut back in 2016.
