Chiefs release starting safety Ron Parker, LB Tamba Hali

The Chiefs have released longtime linebacker Tamba Hali, one of the franchise's career sack leaders.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs are releasing the 34-year-old EDGE man prior to free agency.

Hali's contract was set to expire after next season and the Chiefs would take a $9.4 million cap hit.

It will be interesting to see if Hali drums up any interest as a free agent. Instead, cutting the 12-year veteran will carry a dead cap hit of $1.7 million. In 2016, he played all 16 games yet started just two.

Parker, 30, has been a starter for the Chiefs each of the past four seasons.

He had 67 tackles, four passes defended and two interceptions last season.

Since the 2006 season, Hali has racked up more than 89 sacks in more than 175 career games.

Hali, who was selected to play in five Pro Bowls, led the Chiefs in sacks six times, but not since 2013.
