Case Keenum To Sign With The Denver Broncos

Which version of Case Keenum are the Denver Broncos going to get - the player who we saw in Houston and St. Louis, or the player we saw past year in Minnesota?

Case Keenum will sign with the Denver Broncos, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday morning. That would leave the Vikings, Jets and Cardinals in the running to land Kirk Cousins. Considering how strongly the Broncos were linked with the free-agent QB, the following report is a bit shocking.

Keenum signing with the Broncos makes the Cousins sweepstakes a three-team race. With Keenum being the consensus No. 2 signal caller available on the open market, another quality option under center comes off the board once Keenum officially puts pen to paper.

The Vikings went 11-3 in games started by Keenum during the regular season on their way to a first-round playoff bye. Before last season, Keenum had 24 touchdown passes and 20 interceptions in the NFL.

In the meantime, Denver is coming off an atrocious 5-11 season.

All three quarterbacks were draft picks by Elway, the Hall of Fame quarterback who has only had success at quarterback in free agency.

But it was Siemian, a seventh-rounder from Northwestern, who emerged as Manning's surprise successor in 2016. And he met Gary Kubiak on a golf course. Kubiak coached Keenum for two seasons (2013-2014) when Kubiak was the Texans head coach.

Keenum would have veterans Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders as his targets in Denver after Elway chose not to release either of the expensive wide receivers.

"I still think that we're not too far away", Elway said at the recent National Football League scouting combine. I thought they needed the right guy to pick the right guy. "Obviously we've got to get better at that position".

Last year, however, he experienced a big leap. That doesn't all go on the players. There were some things we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do.
