Case Keenum Reportedly Ready To Sign With Broncos

What it means: The Broncos moved quickly, as Keenum figures to be the first of the high-profile quarterbacks available in free agency to sign a contract when things officially open Wednesday. The news is expected to be confirmed later on Tuesday and rubber stamped when Free Agency opens at 9pm (GMT) on Wednesday.

Keenum had a breakout season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017.

Keenum, of course, comes off a season which saw him complete 67.6 percent of his passes with 3,547 yards and 22 touchdowns.

That would leave the Vikings, Jets and Cardinals in the running to land free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins.

But it was Siemian, a seventh-rounder from Northwestern, who emerged as Manning's surprise successor in 2016. He played two-plus seasons each for the Texans (where he played for Broncos adviser Gary Kubiak) and Rams, and one season with the Vikings.

At the National Football League scouting combine this month, Elway said, "we'll continue to look at all of the options out there when it comes to quarterback". Sitting at No. 5, he is very much in play for one of the five big-time talents (Jackson, Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Allen) and could provide his team the comfort of a short-term quality starter alongside the promise of a long-term rookie option.

Despite his swings and misses at QB before, Elway said, "Believe me, I'm not done swinging and missing".

The Vikings have no quarterbacks under contract for 2018 but have been linked with both Kirk Cousins and Drew Brees, who has yet to be re-signed by the Saints.

Elway insists the Broncos can get right back into the playoff picture with the right quarterback and tweaks to other areas of the roster. That doesn't all go on the players.
