Bakersfield National Cemetery honoring Vietnam veterans on Tuesday

President Donald Trump issued a proclamation recognizing March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day while visiting Vietnam a year ago on November 10, 2017. An excerpt from the 2012 Presidential Proclamation declaring March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day will be read.

"It's never too late to say "thank you" to the courageous men and women who have stepped up and answered the call to serve", said Governor Northam.

According to Kern County Veterans Services Department, 9,087,000 military personnel served on active duty during the official Vietnam era from August 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975. The pins are often presented at public "pinning ceremonies" hosted by partner organizations.

The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act empowered the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program on behalf of the nation that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. While we acknowledge the distinction between veterans who served in country, in theater and/or were stationed elsewhere during this period, we honor all who served.

More than 204,000 of the 725,000 veterans living in Virginia served during the Vietnam War. "We have an outstanding partner in the Virginia War Memorial Foundation, which supports all of the Memorial's programs, including the award-winning Virginians at War film series".

The ceremony is at 10 a.m. everyone is invited to attend.
