Apple Music hits 38M paid subscribers; Apple orders first animated series

Apple continues to pour more money into its original content library with the announcement of its first animated series from Loren Bouchard who is the creator of Bob's Burgers. Bouchard and Gad will executive produce, with Smith serving as a consulting producer.

Apple has already committed to a two-season pickup for Central Park, not unlike what Netflix recently did when they managed to snag the Riverdale spinoff Sabrina from Warner Bros. The animated comedy will have two 13-episode seasons. This move marks a rare one for 20th Century Fox Television, selling work outside the Fox corporate family.

The series was developed at 20th Century Fox, where Borchard is based with Bob's Burgers.

Apple has yet to unveil a platform for its upcoming content.

The show will star the voices of Gad, who played Olaf the snowman in Frozen, as well as Leslie Odom Jr., Titus Burgess, Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci, Daveed Diggs and Kathryn Hahn. The studio is best known for other animated series such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, and American Dad!.

Central Park is the latest animated series to land a sizable order outside of 20th TV's broadcast sibling FOX.
