New Delhi, Feb 6 Delhi Congress's Sewa Dal organiser Vinod Mehra was shot dead in a suspected road rage incident on Bhalaswa flyover near GT Karnal Road today, police said. The accused then reportedly intercepted Mehra's auto, shot at him and fled.

According to police, Vinod Mehra (in the picture) had left his house to attend a marriage function at one of the banquets on GT Karnal Road. A speeding van overtook his WagonR auto on the flyover.

"The victim, on his way back from the marriage function, got involved in a brawl with occupants of another vehicle who were driving rashly". Both vehicles stopped on Bhalaswa Flyover and the argument began.

Mehra is a resident of Delhi's Geeta Colony, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Aslam Khan told the English daily.

"Preliminary probe reveals that the victim, from inside the vehicle, told the passengers in the other auto to drive properly but they didn't listen", said a senior police officer.

Mehra, 35, was returning from a wedding with the teen, when a speeding van overtook his Wagon R auto on a flyover when he objected, an argument started.

Mehra was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Ajay Maken, the Delhi Congress chief, expressed grief over Mehra's demise and demanded that the police arrest the culprits at the earliest. "The CCTV footage from near the wedding venue and other areas on the stretch where cameras are installed is being obtained to identify the accused", another police officer said.
